The School Clock

The clock that hung in the cadet Officer of the Day room — and the bugle calls that ordered every hour it kept.

The School Clock

Kept by the Officer of the Day

This clock once hung in the cadet Officer of the Day room at Augusta Military Academy. From this location, the passing of time was closely connected to the daily routine of cadet life.

Every hour at the Academy was organized around a carefully established schedule. The clock was more than an object that measured time — it was part of the system that kept the entire school moving together.

The clock and its associated bugle calls provide a glimpse into the rhythm, discipline and traditions of daily life at Augusta Military Academy.

The Daily Routine

Time was called by bugle

At Augusta Military Academy, the bugle helped establish the rhythm of the cadet day. Calls announced when it was time to rise, assemble, eat, attend activities, return to quarters and finally retire for the night.

These sounds were part of the Academy's daily language. Hearing them today helps recreate a small but important part of the experience of cadet life.
